He has been serving the residents of Laguna Hills and the surrounding communities in private practice since 1980. Past Chief-of-Staff at Capistrano By The Sea Hospital in Dana Point, California, Irwin I. Rosenfeld, MD, is certified in Advanced Clinical Psychopharmacology. In addition to his work in private practice, he is affiliated with Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach Hospital and Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills, California. Dr. Rosenfeld was the first psychiatrist in California to provide Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. TMS, or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, is a non-invasive therapy and non-systemic procedure, which uses magnetic energy to stimulate the brain’s nerve cells. More than 10,000 safely-performed TMS treatments demonstrated no adverse effects on the patient’s concentration or memory, no seizures, no device-drug interaction, and no systematic side effects, such as sexual dysfunction, weight gain, sedation, nausea, or dry mouth. The NeuroStar TMS Therapy system that Dr. Rosenfeld uses is the first and only TMS Therapy device cleared by the FDA for non-medication treatment of depression. Medical College of WisconsinIrwin I. Rosenfeld, MD, received his bachelor’s degree of arts in biology with honours from Cornell University in 1972. In 1976, he also received his medical degree from The Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he was Valedictorian and President of the Senior Class. Dr. Rosenfeld interned at Mercy Hospital and served his psychiatry residency and fellowship at University of California at Irvine College of Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with added qualifications in both geriatric psychiatry and addiction psychiatry and member of the American Medical Association, the California Psychiatric Association, and the Orange County Psychiatric Society (past president). Dr. Irwin I. Rosenfeld is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (FAPA) and has over 150 articles written. He attributes his success to family support, desire to make a difference in his patients’ lives, and the many challenges that psychiatry offers. He dedicates to bridge, traveling, family, reading, and friends when not working with his patients. Dr. Irwin I. Rosenfeld has recently been acknowledged by the International Association of HealthCare Professionals (IAHCP) with publication into The Leading Physicians of the World. He is the recipient of the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), several Outstanding Service Awards from the Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Orange County (NAMI of Orange County) and from the California Psychiatric Association, and also four Gold Heart Awards from South Coast Medical Center.
